| In 1986, a group of Morgan Horse lovers formed the Champlain Valley Morgan Horse Association. Our activities are limited only by the imagination of the members. The club is American Morgan Horse Assoc. affiliated, as well as with the American Driving Society. Currently, 33% of the members are Morgan owners, with many other breeds and disciplines represented. A number of activities are annual events and have become part of the “horse culture” of the North Country. The open Horse Show in May is a great display of the diversity our club embraces. Promotion of the Morgan division is strong and continues to grow with the addition of a Morgan Horse Versatility Award. In addition to the traditional pleasure and equitation classes, other breed divisions are also well filled, as are the numerous sport events. These include dressage, hunters, driving and trotting races. All are part of our unique show. Education is the other driving force of the club. Anyone with a clinic idea and a little bit of initiative is supported in the development of their topic. Clinics in the past have included: Centered Riding with Sue Hughes, Dressage driving, TTeam Training, Animal Communications and Resistance-Free Training. Clinicians have come from Michigan, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York. Speakers have come to club meetings and talked about issues such as liability insurance, nutrition, veterinary care, and getting that ‘spit-polished” look for the show ring. The range of speakers, events and clinics can be as ambitious and diverse as anyone wants to make it! As time is a precious commodity, the CVMHA strives to offer fun, educational activities. It brings together a diverse group of individuals, each with something different to offer. |
